In a typical semester at college, students will typically complete between forty and sixty hours of classroom study including one to two college courses in addition to the one or two college courses in Algebra I they take in high school. This type of study is enough to provide a solid foundation in math for any student who has taken this type of class since elementary school. The amount of work a student does in college can vary from one student to another, depending on what type of classes they take, where they go to school, and what the campus community is like. In general, there is a good amount of homework that is required and there is often some type of testing involved as well. Some students are able to get by with only homework while others find it very difficult.
College and University levels usually include coursework in Algebra I. However, this type of coursework is usually optional for most students. This is due to the fact that the majority of colleges and universities now have a standard curriculum and course of study that all students must learn regardless of whether or not they take Algebra I as part of their curriculum. For example, most universities do not require that their students take AP Calculus. Students may wish to review Algebra I in order to supplement their Calculus courses, but many colleges will offer students calculus that is taken at the same time as Algebra I.
Since most college courses now require a minimum amount of Algebra I, students who are choosing a college should find out if the class that they plan to take will require any type of Algebra I coursework. Many courses, such as biology, economics, and chemistry do not require a high amount of Algebra II coursework, but most of these classes include general Calculus as well as part of their class.
The college and university level exam that you will take as a college student is based upon your class and on your performance on the exam. It is also determined by your high school GPA, which determines whether or not you will be considered for admission into the college you plan to attend.
Students who take a higher GPA usually will have more difficulty answering the tests and solving equations correctly and will be granted better scores. On the other hand, students who do not take a high GPA usually do not make much improvement in their test-taking skills and cannot always answer the complex questions that are included on a college or university exam. If you need to improve your score, there are some things you can do to improve it.
First, find out what sort of math classes you took in school and find out which ones were difficult for you to understand and how to increase your ability to do so. Then, take the time to analyze your own answers. Ask friends for help if they can give you some advice. You can also take practice exams.
Second, find out if you are struggling to understand the concepts behind Algebra I and use a good graphing calculator when you answer the questions that are included on the college and university level exam. The more you understand the topics on your tests, the more prepared you will be for the college and university level exam.
