Computer-aided Drafting bachelor degree program focuses on basic drafting skills, computer-aided drawing principles, basic drafting tools and computer-aided drafting tools. The Bachelor of Science program combines theoretical learning, basic drafting tools, basic drafting technologies and computer-aided drawing technologies with the practical expertise needed for entry level CAD drafting skills within industries that use mechanical, civil or electrical drafting processes. During the program, students will learn computer-aided designing and drafting procedures and how to manipulate and combine these procedures.
Students are required to complete a total of 4 semesters of approved courses and elective courses in computer based drafting technology and software. These elective courses include drafting software, computer aided design software, computer-aided drawing software, and computer aided drafting systems.
Upon completion of the Bachelor degree, students should be prepared for the profession of the future by taking a comprehensive written exam to meet the requirements for licensure. A professional drawing license is required to draw the architectural, engineering and health care sectors. Other professionals such as architects, engineers, physicians, and nurses may also be required to have a drawing license in order to work in their specific industry. Students are encouraged to take these exams prior to graduating from the Bachelors of Science program.
Students interested in pursuing an Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and even a Doctorate degree in drafting are encouraged to apply for admission to the Department of Design and Architecture at the University of Cincinnati. In addition, students can apply for admission to other universities. All universities require an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 in the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelors of Science, or Masters program.

The Bachelors of Science in Civil Drafting Technology provides students the opportunity to earn a Bachelors of Science in Architectural Technology.
Students interested in pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Architectural Drafting can obtain Bachelors of Science in Civil Drafting Technology through the Bachelor of Science in Cedar Mills, which trains students in the areas of drafting, computer aided design, and drafting tools and technologies. Additionally, students interested in the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Drafting Technology are taught the theory and practice of computer aided drafting.
The Bachelor of Science in Civil Drafting requires that students earn both a Bachelors of Arts in Civil Drafting Technology and a Bachelors of Science in Civil Drafting Technology. A student who enrolls in the program must also earn a minimum GPA of 3.0 on his or her College Board-approved General Education Assessment Program (GERP) exam. All of the required courses taken during the Bachelor of Arts program and those completed during the Bachelor of Science program are transferable to other universities.
The Bachelor of Science in Civil Drafting Technology also allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Drafting. This program will teach students how to create drafts by using computer aided drafting (CAD), wood block drafting, and metal block drafting, among others. Students will learn how to build computer programs to design prototypes and drawings. The Bachelor of Science in Architectural Drawing allows students to design, generate, and print wood block and metal block models to be used for drafting.
The Bachelor of Science in Civil Drafting Program’s curriculum involves learning about CAD software, as well as working with architects to develop drafts and prototypes. Students also must develop skills such as drafting drawing software, CAD computer software, and drafting tools such as drawing tables, drafting laminators, and drafting plates. The Bachelor of Science in Civil Drafting Technology also includes computer assisted drafting (CAD) software. Students who participate in the program also learn how to write computer-aided design (CAD) code. Students are also trained in computer-aided drafting software to convert draft drawings into electronic form.
