Chemical engineering is an engineering branch of science which employs principles of chemistry, mechanics, thermodynamics, biology, and electronics to effectively utilize, manufacture, develop, transport, and convert physical substances and energy into usable output. Chemical engineers are responsible for the design and manufacture of all types of chemical products, from the simplest micro-scale chemical components used in laboratory experiments to the more complex materials and processes that form the basis of modern day medicine and industrial production. These engineers also ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of toxic chemicals and waste products, as well as controlling the release of hazardous substances into the environment. Chemical engineers must be capable of working in a variety of settings and must possess the ability to use their knowledge to solve problems in a cost effective manner.

Chemical engineers are typically employed in manufacturing, industrial, or scientific facilities that utilize a wide range of chemical compounds. Although most chemical engineers work in these settings, there are some who work solely in government agencies such as the US Environmental Protection Agency. Chemical engineers may also be employed by laboratories specializing in various scientific areas. Chemical engineers may also work in environmental consulting firms, specializing in the design of processes and infrastructure to reduce pollution and waste generation.

As a chemical engineer, you will be responsible for creating a product from various chemical substances. Your job is to ensure that the product you create will be compatible with all other chemical substances, while at the same time ensuring the safety of the user. It is your responsibility to research the best method for making the product and then create a method of production that produces consistent, reliable results. You must also be able to demonstrate proof that the process you have designed has a high enough degree of efficiency to meet the specifications of the client, which means that the quality of the final product is not only satisfactory, but also meets the customer’s needs.

If you want to be a chemical engineer, you must first be certified. There are three certifications available, which include Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology Specialist, and an Associate’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. Before you can begin attending the college to obtain a certification, however, you must have completed a general education and vocational course. These courses usually take several semesters and may be taken at a community college, technical school, or vocational college.

Many universities have programs in chemical engineering, which teach you the theory of the chemical industry as well as the engineering of a wide variety of chemical substances. Students who complete these courses have the opportunity to participate in hands-on projects. which focus on developing practical skills such as working with lab equipment, handling and hazardous chemicals, and understanding chemical reactions. After completing this program, you will be prepared to go on to complete the program of study at a university.

In order to become a licensed professional engineer, you will need to pass the specific chemistry certification exam, which is typically offered by the National Board for Professional Engineering Examiners. This examination requires an examination covering the subject matter of your chosen field, as well as an essay, written exam, written communication, numerical reasoning skills, and oral communications. Passing the certification test is usually done by demonstrating that you have completed all the prerequisites necessary to pass the test with flying colors. The NRE exam is administered three times annually.

In order to find work as a chemical engineer, you will have to complete a two year program at an accredited university, after which you will be expected to pass an interview to determine your suitability for the job. Most job opportunities are located in industry, but you may be able to find employment in government agencies, laboratories, or government laboratories. once you have completed your engineering degree. Once you have a license, you will have many job opportunities to expand your career, either by joining the workforce in a laboratory, or in a private company, such as a chemical engineering firm.
